Beech Victory Gives Democrats 60 House Members Crushing ALGOP 2010 Plan
Montgomery, AL - The ALGOP 2010 Legislative takeover plan was dealt another blow as it lost another competitive open seat for the Alabama House of Representatives today. The Alabama Republican Party invested tens of thousands of dollars from their 2010 Plan bank account on Republican Jerry Reed by way of negative ads against Democrat Elaine Beech, only to come up short again.
"Elaine Beech represents the best of our party and her victory tonight came from her broad support from educators, farmers, youth, seniors and even Republicans. Her hard-won victory tonight sends a strong signal that the voters in each legislative district of Alabama will make up their own minds as to who will represent them in the Alabama Legislature and who will organize the Legislature in 2010", said State Democratic Party Chairman, Joe Turnham.
"Cheap negative partisan shots, cookie cutter negative ads and character assassination will not trump the heart of great community servants like Elaine Beech." Turnham stated.
Democrats will welcome Representative-elect Beech to the Statehouse as she will go to work immediately to solve the many challenges that confront Alabama. Democrats are now 5 for 7 in special House elections in the last 48 months. Many pundits, including Republican operatives, predicted that this seat (previously held by a Republican) and others would tip the control of the Alabama House. Republican pundits did not predict the special election victories of Representatives Pebblin Warren, Tammy Irons, Butch Taylor, James Fields, and now Elaine Beech (Marc Keahey). Even Governor Bob Riley participated in candidate recruitment, fundraising, and campaigning in each race.
Removing the sales tax on groceries, protecting Alabama industry and jobs, funding public schools and building infrastructure in Southwest Alabama are still most important to voters everywhere, and Alabama Democrats like Elaine Beech are on the right side of these issues and are winning elections.
