ENEWS Update 2007-12-20
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Thank you so much for being a part of our Democratic family this year! As 2008 approaches our attention rightly turns to our religious holidays and spending time with loved ones. We must also be mindful that in places like Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina there are big decisions about to be made regarding who our next president will be. Please remember Alabama’s early primary date of February 5 and be thinking about who you will support when that day comes. A link to all candidates’ websites can be found by clicking here. Those of us here at the headquarters wish you and your family a blessed Holiday Season and a victorious New Year in 2008!
CULLMAN COUNTY SPECIAL ELECTION
Those of you in Cullman County, mark your calendar to go vote January 29! James Fields of Hanceville is the Democratic nominee for this important special election and he needs your vote to win next month. The election is being held to fill the House District 12 seat vacated by former Rep. Neal Morrison, a Democrat from Cullman. At a local Democratic meeting recently, Fields said "We can win this race. We will win this race with your help." Confident in his support within the community, he concluded by saying "We got them on the ropes and we are going to knock them out on January 29." Read the full story here.
Mr. Fields won a Democratic primary in mid-November and has been busy building his campaign in the meantime. Tina Coggin, ADP's Field Organizer for North Alabama, is working closely with him to keep HD12 in the Democratic column. She can't do it alone though... Help our team deliver that knockout! Volunteers are needed to assist with things like: data entry, phone calls, and neighborhood canvassing.
Keep in mind you don't have to live in the county to get active in this critical election. All help will be welcome and vital to our success. Please contact Tina at tina@aladems.org for more info on how to get involved. If you cannot volunteer your time please consider making a donation to help sustain the party's efforts.
WEBSITE VIDEOS
Just this week we have added a new video feature which allows us to show our supporters important news clips as well as messages to you, the voter. Chairman Joe Turnham recently recorded a personal greeting to Alabama Democrats and he invites you watch it by clicking here. Please consider making www.aladems.org your homepage so that you stay in constant communication with us and you receive the most up-to-date information about YOUR party.
Since the re-launch of the Alabama Democratic Party’s website this fall, there has been more site traffic than ever before as people visit online to get the latest party updates and related information. The party is continually working to improve its website and looking for ways to make it even more welcoming and user-friendly. If you have suggestions, email Brannon your comments here.
PRIMARY BALLOT CERTIFIED
On December 7, the state party closed qualifying for interested delegate candidates for the February 5 Democratic Presidential Preference Primary. Over 360 Alabama voters qualified with the Democratic Party before the deadline, compared to only 300 on the Republican side. The party then certified our ballot on December 12.
This roster of Democrats is diverse not only in terms of race and gender, but also in the mixture of political veterans and first-time candidates. Every congressional district is represented on the list. Thirty-four pledged district-level delegates and seven pledged alternates will be elected during the February 5 Primary.
We have provided a space on our website for delegate candidate banner ads. With thousands of hits on our website everyday, you can easily incerase your visibility by reserving your space now for just a $100 contribution to the party. Make your contribution here and submit your banner here.
